Please join us for an evening of stand-up comedy and music with the legendary comedian Barry Crimmins and special guest Megan Dooley.

Barry Crimmins:

Barry Crimmins is an American stand-up comedian, political satirist, author, former Air America Radio writer and correspondent, and former comedy club owner.

Crimmins helped bring the Boston Comedy scene into the modern age when he founded two of Boston's most fabled clubs: The Ding Ho and Stitches. Such acts as Steven Wright, Paula Poundstone, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kevin Meaney, Jimmy Tingle and many, many others cut their comedic teeth in the rooms Crimmins started and at shows he produced.

Crimmins' satirical writing and comedy routines have focused through the years on the need for political and social change. In the 1990s, in a more serious vein, he led a crusade against images of child abuse on the Internet, calling for police investigation of ISPs. Crimmins received the "Peace Leadership Award" from Boston Mobilization for Survival, and was honored by Community Works with the "Artist for Social Change Award" for his years of activism. Howard Zinn presented Barry Crimmins with "The Courage of Conscience Award" from Wellesley College and The Life Experience School at The Peace Abbey in Sherborn, Massachusetts.

Crimmins has also been featured in a number of film and television appearances over the years, including When Standup Stood Out (2003), The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1988-1989), and The Young Comedians All-Star Reunion (1986). Crimmins has released two albums:Strange Bedfellows on A&M Records and Kill the Messenger on Green Linnet. His articles are regularly published in The Boston Phoenix among other publications.

Crimmins’ life and work in comedy and politics are the subject of a new documentary directed by filmmaker and fellow comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, entitled Call Me Lucky.

"Barry is hilariously funny, but more important, his humor comes out of a deep intelligence, and extraordinary understanding of the world around him and an intense commitment to social change." -- Howard Zinn, author of A People's History of the United States.

Megan Dooley:

Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Megan Dooley has been performing in Michigan and surrounding areas for over 14 years.

Steeped in rich American roots music that bursts with a modern attitude and soulful inflection, Dooley captures audiences whether performing solo or leading a full band.

Her rich, gritty, and powerful vocals weave between punchy rhythm guitar, eloquent banjolele, and a “whistle as pure as birdsong, expressed with great musical aplomb.” to create a musical experience all her own.

Dubbed “The First Lady” of the Kalamazoo music scene by Revue Magazine in October 2013, Megan Dooley is a Michigan performer that is not to be missed.
